About the library

Who to contact at the Library:

Other than subject liaisons for helping students along with their courses each of the librarians has duties that may be helpful to students, faculty, and staff. Following is a general list of who to contact for what at the library.

Christine Fullerton manages the interlibrary loan system. She is an excellent resource for locating materials in the library collection at the King Library, and well beyond.  Christine meets with classes regularly to teach how to use the library electronic resources, and how to begin your research and writing projects. These instructional sessions can be tailored to faculty needs or students can meet with her or talk with her one-on-one for assistance with course projects. cfullerton@d809.com.

Shawn Hartman oversees the day to day operation of the library. She supervises student workers and part-time library technicians; and Shawn coordinates room reservations, manages circulation, faculty reserves, and course reserves, and the textbook reserve collections. And, Shawn enjoys providing library tours for new students, classes, or anyone wanting to know more about the library.  If you are a student looking for an on-campus job, Shawn is the person to talk to. shartman@d809.com

Paula DeMars handles the technical services available through the library. If you are having a hard time accessing journals or articles, eBooks, or other online resources, contact Paula directly for assistance.  If you run into any website issues that indicate an EZProxy error, let Paula know -  if we don't hear it from our resource users, we can't fix it! Paula also does all the cataloging and ordering of resources for the library and is a general troubleshooter for library resource needs. pdemars@d809.com

Off-Campus Library Resources

Library Resource Access

The CSC Library subscribes to a variety of article and book databases to facilitate campus research. When students, faculty, and staff are on campus and using the local area network (LAN), they need only to go to the Library Learning Common's website -- http://fu0.d809.com/library/ -- to gain access to these resources.

Use the Search Box on the main library webpage to find print materials in the collection, eBooks, and Journal articles - peer reviewed and full text articles.

To access an eBooks owned by the CSC Library, go to Search Library Catalog, on the library's main webpage. When the library catalog opens, click on Featured Lists in the upper right. Then select "CSC eBooks we own".

Books:

Distance students who need print materials for their use and research may complete an Interlibrary Loan form to receive print titles from the King Library, and/or print titles from other libraries across the nation. If you have questions about Interlibrary Loan, email Christine Fullerton, Public Services Librarian at cfullerton@d809.com or call 308-432-6271.

Online Access

When students, faculty, and staff are off campus, they are no longer on the LAN. This means that an additional step is required to gain access. Because databases are limited to students, faculty, and staff, it is necessary to enter CSC credentials to access these resources from off-campus

As part of the application process, Information Technology (IT) sends a set of two usernames and passwords to new students. These usernames and passwords provide access to various campus resources, including:

MyCSC / NUID
Username looks like – 99999999 (8 digit ID)
Used for – Course enrollment, Accessing grades & transcripts, Billing/payment status
Campus
Username looks like – john.student OR jostud
Used for – EagleMail, CSC Online/Canvas, library databases,  device registration, on campus computers login

When you try to access library resources (eBooks, article databases, etc.) from off campus, you will see a login prompt (example below). To access the library resources, enter your campus username and password.

Creating your own persistent link to an online subscription through Chadron State College:

Once you have followed the process below to access a database the library does recommend creating a sign-in using your campus email and your own password (doesn't need to be your campus email password) when this option is available from the database.

This will establish persistent, direct access to the eBook, article database, or online newspapers through our campus subscription. When sign on is available, using your campus email to access a periodical should connect you directly to the Chadron State College subscription.  If you have any questions, email library@d809.com for assistance.

IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access) Space

Chadron State College’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee is pleased to announce the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) Space is open for students and employees. The IDEA Space is located in Room 109 of the King Library.

The IDEA Space is a safe space for underrepresented students, faculty, staff, and others to meet, organize, research, and study, and to foster community, solidarity, and trust. The DEI Committee hopes the dedicated space on campus will cultivate a culture of care and spread inclusivity.

The IDEA Space is open to everyone, however, if you would like to reserve the room for a meeting or event, you can do so here.

Rotating Book Collection

Rotating Book Collection

Rotating Book Collection

The Rotating Book collection are titles selected by a group of CSC employees that are either new non-fiction titles or new and favorite fiction titles. We keep the titles for about a year and then we return those that are no longer circulating.

We are able to keep titles that support our collection development purposes at either a reduced rate of $3 per title or as part of our returns. For every 5 books returned, we keep 1 title.

These titles are to checkout on a 14-day loan. These are temporary titles and some will rotate out when new titles are selected for the Rotating Bookshelf.  Anyone may request any title to be added to our permanent collection here.

Titles in the Rotating Bookshelf can be found on the first floor of the Library.  An updated title list is available here.

If you would like to be part of the rotating book selection committee, please contact Paula DeMars at pdemars@d809.com
